A Dragracer

This is the car of our club member Ron van Let.
Ron does Drag racing! His car, a Rover SD1 with a Chevy engine of 5.7 liter has 550 horsepower. Ron enters various events with his car. I went met him at the airport in Drachten where a speed race was held.

What a huge tires at the rear, 315x60x15.
But with so many horsepower this is a must to keep the car on track.
Nice piece of ass.

Here the dashboard with a extra tachometer, the engine can handle 7000 rpm.
These high rpm's are automatically limited.

The alloy wheels are specially made for this car and fitted are special soft compound tires.

Shit happens... at the sprint race in Dwingeloo the laughing-gas was stuck which caused the engine to make to much rpm's and caught fire.

This is a color picture of the engine with due to the fire-extinguisher and the soot it looks like a black and white picture. A loss of approx. € 3000,-

To give you any idea how quick this car was.
The Rover SD1 did a 0 to 163 km per hour in 7.3 seconds for the 200 meter and 1/8 mile
and 6.6 seconds for the 200 meter.
